Evil - The Pipe Barrel System

Order your cheap Evil - The Pipe Barrel System from here.

evil-the-pipe-barrel-system.JPG

So if a single barrel is just not enough for you why not get a complete system. The Evil Pipe System in my opinion is exactly what you need for. Now there’s no problematic bore size paintballs – you simply put the right back and you’re all set. The thing is quite a performer if you ask me. It’s extremely accurate, very light and great looking. Great plus is that it is self cleaning. No wasting time with squeegees anymore…just shoot through the break and the thing is back to normal. Although when talking about breaks – don’t expect too many of them, after all now you can match the barrel to the paintball size. So, here’s the info for it first, then back to the not so good part:

“A new innovative barrel from a new innovative company. From the company that brings you Evil Paintballs and other new Impulse, Angel, Autococker, Shocker and other parts comes a new barrel.”

1. 5 backs: 0.683, 0.686, 0.689, 0.692, 0.695. Tolerance stack: 0.0007 of an inch of bore indicated.
2. Micro hone finish tolerance: 2 to 5 microns. -Swank! - They can’t stop us; they can only hope we get hit by a bus.
3. 30degree angel venting, clears broken paint out and away, no more drips throwing off shot after shot as happens in straight porting. Porting disperses air evenly as to send ball on straight flight the whole flight.
4. Fade standard, looks great on most every marker. Silver to black fade standard, optional red to black, blue to black and green to black and optional solid black available soon.
5. Packaged in a gear bag and airport friendly protective tube. Backs are firmly held into place and the entire kit displays well.
6. Backs are optimized 6 inch length (its a good size). Front lengths vary to make overall barrel length: 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 inches available. 12 or 14in is recommended.
7. Currently made for Autococker threaded markers, Impulse, Angel, model 98 and Piranha (Spyder, Black dragun etc).

I really like the Pipe System…so do many players out there, but that doesn’t mean it’s flawless. For starters the thing is kinda loud. Not too much, but loud enough to give out you position. Also if you are an aggressive player then this may not be the system for you. Some people claim that the thing is simply not strong enough – especially the tip. If you are more careful with it though, you’ll be just fine. Take care of your equipment and don’t abuse it too much – it will absolutely last you for a while. You may find the price of the Pipe System a little bit high – it costs around $150 – but if you think about what you’re really getting you’ll find the price more than fair. Well, you’ve read the review – you know the pros and cons. The decision is all up to you.

Evil Driver Barrel

Order your cheap Evil Driver Barrel from here.

evil-driver-barrel.jpgThe Driver is yet another greatly looking and even better performing barrel by Evil. For a mid range priced barrel there are not too many better than this one. We’ll start with the accuracy – the expression “shooting darts” seems like made for this thing. Well, you know there are other factors involved when it comes to accuracy, but it’s never a bad thing the barrel to help shoot more accurate. It’s quiet, too. Sure there are quieter barrels out there, but this one’s not bad at all. It is light…you won’t even feel it; still it balances great on the gun. It looks good. It’s not paint picky and rarely breaks balls…if it does though it’s very easy to clean. One swap with the squeegee or two shots through is all it takes for it to come back to being perfect. Now, here’s some info before we move to the few negatives:

“From the company that brought you wicked Evil paintballs, now you can shoot paint through a wicked Evil barrel. Performance engineered to put your paint in the same place every shot. Now when you miss, you can’t blame your barrel.
•    One-piece barrel construction
•    Silky smooth anodized finish
•    Ample porting for reduced noise”
There’s not too much to say when it comes to the negative side – performance-wise this thing is great. Maybe the only flaw…or more of an inconvenient is that it comes in only 14in length. This is just right for many, but some may need 12in or even 16in. guess they’ll have to look for something else. For those who are just fine with the 14in length – you can find the Driver for about $55 - great price for a great product. Take advantage of it.

Empire Twister Barrel

Order your cheap Empire Twister Barrel from here.

empire-twister-barrel.jpg

The Empire Twister is a little older issue, but still deserves some attention. Mostly because you can get it for about $45 which is absolutely cheap, especially when we’re talking quality and performance like that. Sure if you can afford something more expensive and newer you can skip this review, but for $45 this is as good as it gets. The Twister looks really good on your gun, but performance-wise is even better. It is really accurate and although there are quieter guns out there I don’t think this one is horribly loud. It’s also pretty strongly made (definitely better than the Custom 2-Piece reviewed earlier). Breaking balls isn’t something to worry about. The barrel isn’t picky at all, but still stay away from the cheapest paintballs out there. So before we go on here’s some info:

“Barrel produced by Empire Paintball. It is internally rifled to produce more of a predictable trajectory shot after shot. Made from polished 6061 composite g-aluminum. Comes in lengths of either 12″,14″, or 16″.”

It’s time for some negativity. As I said nothing too major, but there are some things you should know about. First off this barrel is extremely hard to clean. No idea why, but you’ll need to use the squeegee once or twice after a break. Good thing is that it doesn’t break paint too often, right. Also, even though the design is awesome (in my own opinion of course), people complain about the spider on the top doesn’t really comes into place when the barrel is completely screwed to the gun. Anyway I’m sure those are things you can live with. If not you’ll have to look for something more expensive. I like the thing and I’m sure if you try it you’ll like it too.

Empire Custom 2-Piece Barrel

Order your cheap Empire Custom 2-Piece Barrel from here.

empire-custom-2-piece-barrel.JPG

To tell you the truth the hardest choice for me was always between Dye and Empire. It’s no difference when it comes to barrels. Both companies run so close to each other that basically it’s only a matter of personal choice sometimes. Anyway let’s do some talking about the Empire Custom 2-piece Barrel. Overall a great piece of equipment. It has some flaws, but nothing to serious. You should definitely consider getting this thing, especially if you’re on a budget, because it isn’t really that expensive. The thing is very light, but balances well on the gun. It’s dead accurate and looks really good. It cleans well although you may want to use squeegee instead of just shooting through breaks. It’s not paint picky and rarely breaks balls. It’s a 2-piece so you get plenty of possibilities with the bore size and lengths you need. Here’s the given information about it:

“Empire Paintball now offers a single 2-piece Custom Barrel, as found in pre-configured sets in their 4-, 7-, and 10-piece barrel kits. You can order the individual back pieces specific to your gun’s thread and choose your bore size of .681, .684, .687, .689, .691, .693, or .696, and pick between black aluminum or polished stainless steel. You then order the individual front piece desired, available in lengths totalling 10″, 12″, 14″, 16″, or 18″ when you add them to the back piece, and pick between black, blue, red, or silver aluminum.
No inserts to get damaged. Precision machining for a perfect fit between pieces, and micro honing equals superb accuracy. Not a pre-packaged set means you pick exactly what you want, without anything extra that you don’t. Literally thousands of possibilities.”

As I said it’s an overall great barrel. As to the flaws I mentioned – the thing isn’t really the quietest. It’s not loud, but there’s certainly room for improvements. It’s also not the most durable barrel out there. I don’t know how Empire let that happen, but the thing scratches really easy and if you’re not careful enough you even risking denting it. Still those are flaws that can be ignored, considering that the price is only about $60. For an Empire that’s pretty cheap. In conclusion, if you can afford the Dye Ultralite definitely go with it, if not this one should definitely do it.

Dye Boomstick Barrel

Order your cheap Dye Boomstick Barrel from here.

dye-boomstick-barrels.jpg

I’ll review the Boomstick anyway, because, as it says below, it really is one of the most commonly used barrels. The thing is great don’t get me wrong - just with the release of the Ultralite I think it’s not that worthy. Not that the Boomstick doesn’t have the advantages - sure it does – it’s extremely accurate, it’s durable, it’s quiet, it’s amazingly looking – basically everything you can expect from a barrel, but it’s also pretty pricy and just a tad worse than the Ultralite. Why? Because it’s heavier and harder to clean. It’s really nothing too important, but still it is common sense to get the better and cheaper product, right. Anyway here’s the given info about it:

“The Boomstick is the flagship of the Dye barrel line. This is the most widely desired barrel in the paintball industry. The Boomstick is built from gun drilled surgical grade 303 stainless steel and an aircraft grade 6061 T6 aluminum. All DYE barrels are honed to a 6 micron surface finish, giving you the smoothest and straightest barrel surface on the market. The precision fit of the aluminum front combined with the stainless steel back provides one of the best shooting barrels in the world. The Boomstick is the most common barrel used by professional players worldwide.”

Now, don’t think I’m bashing the Boomstick. Before the Ultralite it practically ruled the market – you know there’s got to be a reason for that. It was one of the best. But it’s only natural new and improved stuff to come out. You can still get the barrel for about $130, but as I said it’s not really worthy now. If you already have it – good for you – you know you own a barrel. For those of you who are on a search – go with the Ultralite.

Dye Ultralite Barrel

Order your cheap Dye Ultralite Barrel from here.

dye-ultralite-barrel.jpg

Of all the Dye barrels I’m gonna review I think the Ultralite is the one to go with. Not that the others don’t have qualities or are not worthy, but because this one outperforms them all, or if not, is at a better price (the Boomstick is what I’m referring to with that last part of the sentence). Besides being ultra light (can’t get more creative?), the thing is also super accurate. It is probably the most accurate barrel out there. It’s flawlessly made. It’s strong, it’s quiet and it’s absolutely great looking. Anything you expect from a barrel to be is gathered in the Ultralite. Here are some features:
•    Micro-honed perfection equals perfection in accuracy
•    Threaded at a compound angel to ensure perfect alignment every time
•    Traditional Dye straight porting that is quiet and classic
•    Dye trademarked muzzle break
•    this is dusted base and dusted tip
•    choose your bore size and tip length
The thing is also easy to clean, although you’ll do that job better with a squeegee than just shooting through the broken paint. Breaks on the other hand are not something to expect with this barrel. You can pretty much shoot anything through it with no problems at all. It’s a little steep on the price – around $100 – but in my opinion it absolutely deserves that money. If you can afford it – go for it without hesitation. And for those who actually take notice of my advices – go for it even over the Boomstick…it’s just as good, only cheaper.

Dye Stainless Steel Barrels

Order your cheap Dye Stainless Steel Barrels from here.

dye-stainless-steel-barrels.jpg

The Stainless Steel is the next Dye barrel to be reviewed. Overall it’s a great barrel – amazingly looking and great when it comes to performance. The thing is strongly made – and I mean that. Not only on the inside, but also externally – it doesn’t a scratch easily at all. It shoots very accurate and is pretty consistent. It’s also extremely quiet, but that goes for most of the barrels out there.  The thing is easy to clean, although shooting through broken paint won’t be a blast. Breaks on the other hand are not something you need to worry about with this barrel. You’ll like the thing I’m sure, but there’s more to be said about it. Right after the manufacturer’s description:

“ Dye Products continue to lead the way in barrel technology. Accuracy, reliability and pure performance has made the Dye barrel the choice among tournament players. These Dye stainless steel barrels are manufactured from gun drilled 303 surgical stainless steel.”

If I have to mention something negative it will be the lack of efficiency. Again this is mainly because of the porting, but you have to make up your mind whether you want your barrel to be quiet or air sufficient. Another thing is the weight. It bothers many players because the Stainless Steel isn’t one of the lightest, but in my opinion it’s better this way (being a little bit heavy), because it balances the gun perfectly. The price is also not something to be very happy about. The Stainless Steel usually costs around $100 which is not cheap for a barrel, but I’ve found places where you can get it as cheap as $40 so look around before making a purchase. It’s a good barrel trust me…if you find it cheaper get it without any hesitation, but spending too much money on it is just not worthy.

Dye Aluminum Barrels

Order your cheap Dye Aluminum Barrels from here.

dye-aluminum-barrels.jpg

The time has come for the Dye barrels reviews. You know I’m not unprejudiced when it comes to Dye products, but I’ll try to be as objective as I can. The Aluminum is the first barrels to be reviewed, and to tell you the truth I’ve seen better barrels out there. The thing looks great, yes, but looks are just a small part of what we’re looking for. Performance-wise the thing is not really the greatest. It shoots fairly accurate…meaning that there certainly are better barrels out there, especially for this price. It’s light, but almost any barrel is. It is quiet – nothing too different from the others I’ve reviewed. It’s Dye, which means you can trust on it being there for you for quite some time. Here’s the description for it before I move to the not so pleasant part:

“The Dye Aluminum paintball barrel reviewed here is a one-piece that comes in 10″, 12″, and 14″ for most guns.”

The downsides: the thing is an air hog (if we can call a barrel that). It’s absolutely inefficient - mainly because of the porting. Yes, porting makes it quieter, but it also uses gas like crazy. Not to mention the hard cleaning. If you expect the thing to clean itself after a break, prepare for a long waiting. Fortunately it doesn’t break balls too often. If a break happens, a squeegee is a must. You may want to be careful about scratches, too. The price is about $90 and usually for a Dye product I’ll say it’s worthy, but not this time. There are better barrels out there for less than $90. And if you insist on a Dye (which I absolutely understand), check out some of the other reviews.

DeadlyWind Fibur Carbon Fiber Barrel

Order your cheap DeadlyWind Fibur Carbon Fiber Barrel from here.

deadlywind-fibur-carbon-fiber-barrel.jpg

For starters – this is one amazingly looking barrel. I love the way it looks on the gun and even though you don’t have too many color options, I think you’re gonna like it too. But since looks are definitely not the most important think to be considered when buying a barrel, let’s talk about performance. Overall the barrel performs really well. It’s extremely light (many people even claim it to be too light), but it balances the gun pretty well, too. It’s dead accurate and pretty efficient. It is carbon fiber so you know it is tough made. I haven’t heard any complains about easy scratching, so that’s definitely a plus in my eyes. The manufacturer’s description challenges you with a lot of tings so get to it before we continue:

“The Deadlywind Fibur (previously named Wisper) carbon fiber barrels are ultra-lightweight, accurate, and quiet. They are compatible with the Freak(tm) replaceable inserts, so one barrel and a few inserts will do the job of multiple barrels.
Weighing in at an average 46grams (59 grams with insert), they are 2x to 4x lighter than other replaceable insert barrels.
Unlike other carbon fiber barrels, the Wisper barrel is built with a unique 3 layer construction. 2×2 satin Twill external, uni-direction fibers laid up in a strong multi-vector pattern, and then a super slick “Silkfiber” inside that can be safely swabbed. CNC align-bored segment for the insert area, CNC-ported with 3 spiraling rows of ports, and then hand-assembled and quality checked– You can’t get any more accurate.
Already have inserts? Just buy the barrel by itself. Need an insert to go with it? Buy one or go with the 3x inserts and save!

Currently available for:

- Autococker(tm) thread, which fits many markers, including:
Autococker
Intimidator
ULE Automag
Xmag
Freestyle
Ego
Cyborg
Quest
DM
Promaster
Onyx
Mini

- SmartParts Thread, which fits:
Ion
Impulse
Nerve
Shocker NXT

- Shocker SFT thread

- “Old” Angel (pre-G7 Fly) Thread”

On the negative side (there are some things to be mentioned) – the thing is very, very hard to clean. Sure a squeegee will do, but if you’re trying to clean a break with just shooting through, prepare yourself with some patience. Also the barrel is a little bit paint picky. It doesn’t like very brittle paint, so be careful with that. And last - it needs Freak inserts, so mind that too before you get the barrel. The thing costs about $90 and is really a good barrel, but for that money you can absolutely get something with fewer problems. My advise - try out different barrels first before jumping on this one.

Custom Products Pro-Barrel System

Order your cheap Custom Products Pro-Barrel System from here.

custom-products-pro-barrel-system.jpg

And if you hadn’t have enough of the CP barrels here’s one more for you – the Pro-Barrel System. Of them all this is by far my favorite. I know I poured out not one and two superlatives about the CP One Piece and Two Piece Barrels, but the Pro-Barrel outlooks and outperforms them both. It’s even more accurate, lighter, quieter and durable. You still get the huge variety of lengths, bore sizes and colors. The efficiency of this thing is also great. I can even compare it to some of the Dye barrels and at some point even call it better. Here’s the description for it, before we move on:

“The barrel itself is a two piece, two step screw together masterpiece. The first 5 inches is what we call the control bore. (this is the distance that most experts agree is the most critical in a barrel) The second screw-in piece is called the universal tip. This tip is honed to a 0.700 bore diameter, thus allowing the blast of air to completely surround the ball, reshaping the ball spherical again.”

So if you liked the previous two CP barrels reviewed, you’ll absolutely love this one. Again the only downside that remains is the easy scratching, but if you take good care of it, you’ll be fine. The price goes up of course and the Pro-Barrel costs around $75, but still that’s cheaper than many of the barrels on the market. And for the performance you’re getting out of this one I think that price is well deserved. You’ll like the thing, trust me.
